Penrith Anglican College
Penrith Anglican College requires an expanded suite of teaching and performance spaces adjacent to an existing brick theatre building on the site.
The quality and configuration of the existing theatre held challenges for the design of a new, adjacent building. Teaching suites, a performamce space and hospitality centre were located according to optimum relationships both for their successul operations but also to address functional deficiences in the existing building. The location of a rugby field adjacent to the site also provided a logical focus for external connections and the opportunity to view over the field to the landscape beyond.
A new roof, in the form of a ligature that attaches to the existing building and covers all new areas has an additional function as a "third space" which provides opportunities for students to gather in a range of smaller groups in and around the building, while protected from the western Sydney sun.
The project will commence construction in 2017.
