Parramatta City – Ideas On Edge Competition

“Crossing the Parramatta River gave rise to growth of the city on both sides…

But on closer inspection, mono-functional zones divided the river.

A laneways strategy aimed at making a dynamic, public oriented city…but is denied expansion by the river.

A physical and conceptual ‘bridge’ developing out of the laneways strategy…a solution growing out of the existing circumstance.

TERROIR’s submission for the Parramatta City Council’s ideas competition ‘Ideas on Edge’ aims to activate the river edge whilst connecting North Parramatta and the CBD. The Parramatta City Centre Lanes Strategy forms a basis for the proposal. Existing laneways expand into a large public space on the river edge, with an active pedestrian bridge which connects to the existing Riverside Theatres.
